My work has been inspired, amongst other things, by the lovely Kemback garden in Fife, Scotland, where I lived and worked with artist, Simon Weller, for 30 years. After Simon's death in 2022, I moved down to London to live in Camberwell. Though it is very different, the city is also full of sources of inspiration.
When my granddaughters were young, sometimes, in puzzlement, they asked me,
'Granny Sue, what are you staring at?'
The answer - shapes, movements, groupings, patterns observed in stones, forest floors, branches, bark, bodies of water, raindrops, clouds, etcetera.
It all feeds into visual memory, and can be accessed (I hope indirectly) for purposes of making paintings, whether on canvas, paper or silk; it's all an exploration.
